        SPEECH/LANGUAGE SERVICES

Non -public school services has provided speech/language services since the mid 1970s. I have been assigned to St. Joseph School in Downingtown since 1987. Services include speech/language screenings, diagnostic testing, speech/language therapy, some teacher and parent inservicing.

Speech and Language problems can include but not be limited to the following descriptions:

ARTICULATION: problems of pronunciation of sounds. Speech work would include correcting errors of substitutions, omissions, and distortions. VOICE: problems of production or quality. Voice work cannot begin until an Otolaryngology has made the referral supplying a diagnosis and report. Click here for a list of Otolaryngologists in the area.

FLUENCY: problems with the flow of speech. Fluency work can take many different forms. It maybe indirect or direct but parent involvement is critical. If you would like to know more about Fluency then click here for more information. http://www.stutteringfoundation.org

LANGUAGE: difficulties with language can be pervasive throughout your child's school career. Language encompasses vocabulary development, the use of our rules for speaking, the understanding of concepts, following directions, memory skills, using language to communicate with others.
