CCIU READING PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
CREATED AND MAINTAINED BY JOYCE AVENICK, CCIU READING SPECIALIST

Individuals or small groups of students are seen for reading instruction once or twice a week for 30 minute sessions. Students may be seen for sight vocabulary development, phonics instruction, comprehension strategies or studyskills. Each session involves direct instruction in one or more of these areas. Students are usually scheduled during ILA time and teachers work closely with the specialist to assure students do not miss direct classroom reading instruction. A variety of materials are used including regular classroom reading and content instructional materials. An individual prescript and instructional program will be developed according to each child's needs. The instructional program is developed based on classroom teacher observation of student needs, informal assessments and diagnostic test results.
